Our Institute

Government College of Engineering, Kalahandi (GCEK) was established in the year 2009 by an act of Govt. of Odisha and stands a humble spectacle where tradition meets modernisation; aspiration meets inspiration, where our aim is to keep scaling new heights. Functioning as a constituent college of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Rourkela, Odisha, the college offers 4 years Under Graduate B.Tech degree programmes in Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. GCEK also offers Master’s degree in Thermal Engineering and Power System Engineering. The institute has been successful in keeping itself up to the standards by surpassing the expectation in producing a brand of engineers capable of adapting all over the world. The exact location is besides the NH-201 (Bargarh- Boriguma), about 5 Km away from Bhawanipatna on the way to Junagarh.

Civil Engineering Department

The Department of Civil Engineering was started from 2009 with the inception of institution, Government College of Engineering Kalahandi with an aim to produce high quality Civil Engineering graduates to serve in different organizations. The Department offers B.Tech degree in Civil Engineering with intake strength of 60. In the department there are one Professor, two Associate Professors and eleven Assistant Professors. The faculty members of the department are well qualified having their highest degrees from reputed institutes like IITs and NITs. Department has well- equipped laboratories and state-of-art facilities for development of both students and faculties.The departmental vision is to accomplish excellence in Civil Engineering through innovation and research to serve the Nation.

The Conference

Online National Conference on SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL AND PRACTICES FOR INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT (SMPID-2020) focuses on emerging research and developments in infrastructure with emphasis on eco-friendly materials and practices. The infrastructures, which are being constructed today, will shape our lives tomorrow. The complex and diverse nature of the impacts due to climate change / weather extremes on civil infrastructures can be seen in our roadways, railways, bridges, flyovers, harbours, buildings etc. Extreme summer temperatures, flash floods, and rising numbers of freeze-thaw cycles pose challenges for civil infrastructure and can endanger public safety. Thus, civil infrastructures require constant attention, maintenance, and upgradation. Use of sustainable resources and design practices in various infrastructural sectors is the key to respond the impending crisis. Structural, geotechnical, environmental aspects along with transportation networks and water resources management are critical areas to be considered. SMPID-2020 provides a forum for the dissemination of latest technical information, publication of the highquality research results and debate on the new trends in the area of infrastructure with lower ecological footprint.
